TBI and ADHD linked

A new study has found a link between TBI and ADHD in Canadian adults. Published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, this study suggests a “significant association between ADHD and TBI”, according to the Dr. Mann. Adults with TBI are more than twice as likely to report symptoms of ADHD.

The CDC in America reports that about 11% of children in America have been diagnosed with ADHD and the percentage increases every year. This leads investigators to wonder about the number of reported and unreported cases of TBI / concussions that may have predated diagnosis. It’s believed that TBI could become the third largest cause of disease and disability globally by the year 202 according to the WHO (World Health Organization).

This is significant research from St. Michael’s hospital in Toronto, and the researchers are suggesting that is may be “useful to assess the TNI history during screening and assessment of ADHD in the adult population”.
